Saddam Hussein, Alive and Well in Hollywood?
LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) October 26, 2005
While Saddam Hussein, the toppled Iraqi leader appeared before the Iraqi Special Tribunal in Baghdad last week, where he belligerently argued about the legitimacy of the court that he is being tried before, he seems to be alive and living quite comfortably in Hollywood, or at least an impersonator of Saddam Hussein is. James Evans, a Hollywood actor, has been portraying the former dictator on television and film since just after the start of the Iraq War.
Evans has appeared as Saddam Hussein on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on NBC, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC, “Last Call with Carson Daly” on NBC, “Live from Hollywood, It’s God” an ABC pilot with Ed Asner, and in the films “Weapon of Mass Destruction (2004)” and “Sniper Patrol 420″, currently in post production.
In a recent interview, Evans said “A well known photographer claimed that I looked like Saddam Hussein and I laughed”. He explained that the photographer brought up pictures on the computer and the resemblance was all too real. Not only does Evans’ moustache resemble the ex-dictators but his forehead, jaw line and even earlobes. Soon afterwards James dressed up in a makeshift Saddam Hussein outfit and immediately started appearing on films, television and in international commercials as Saddam. Just hours after Evans finished filming a commercial in the snow for European company as Saddam, the US forces capture the real Saddam Hussein.
Dorothy Findlater, the CEO of Mirror Images Co., the worlds largest impersonator and look-a-like company, with offices in London and Hollywood, explains, “James Evans has proven time and time again to be the best choice for our company Mirror Images Co. Impersonation is not an easy profession and comes under many critical eyes, that is why we use only the best in the business.”
The impersonator and look-a-like industry is popular in Europe, Asian and Las Vegas, where the industry flourishes with lives shows featuring Marilyn Monroe, the Rat Pack, etc. Rarely is found a seasoned actor such as Evans, so similar looking to a celebrity or public figure.
While Evans never planned to portray one of the most un-liked figures in recent history, he explained that he quickly studied the history of Saddam’s life and took an immediate disliking to the very person he impersonates. Evans said ” Disliking Saddam Hussein gives me a better opportunity to portray him in a more truthful manner, whether comedic or dramatic.”
What Evans found out about the ex-dictator was that Saddam claimed he was 6’2″ but John Paul Roberts, the well-known British biographer, who meet Saddam in person the mid 1990′s, said Saddam was no where near 6’2″ but closer to 5’9″ or 5’10″, which is Evans’ height. Roberts humorously wrote, when one is a dictator, he can be just about any height he wants to be.
Early this year the E! Entertainment television channel aired “The Michael Jackson Trial”, a daily re-enactments and analysis of the Michael Jackson molestation trial, where ironically Evans portrayed the Bailiff on the show, the trial of Saddam Hussein has started off with all the theatrics that should compel viewers throughout the world, including verbal outbursts and shoving guards by Hussein. At this time E! Entertainment has no plans to air any aspects of the Saddam trial, but that will not curtail the theatrics on the late night television shows such of those hosted by Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, etc.
Evans, a Southern California native, has appeared on the ABC soap opera General Hospital, Ashton Kutcher’s show “Punk’d”, numerous Spanish TV shows, etc. Evans admits that people have stopped him in stores and told him he looks like Saddam Hussein, but for now that is a good thing for his acting career.

Question by Jared C: Do bands play along to a studio recording when they perform on late night shows like David Letterman?
Some friends and I were debating whether or not bands that appear on late night shows just perform the song, but what you are hearing is just a live studio recording they are playing along to, but you aren’t hearing the actual sound during the taping of the show, it is just practiced to look like they are really playing. I feel this just seems like a lot of work that is inefficient and discredits a lot a bands talent and work. But maybe they do?

i’ve heard some bands on jay leno sound pretty bad. i’d assume they wouldn’t make a shitter version of their studio recording, so they must do it live. (but not ashlee simpson)

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) December 8, 2005
On Monday night December 12th a host of comedians will descend on the world-famous Mann’s Chinese Theatres in Hollywood to take part in the Hollywood’s Master Storytellers™ presentation of “The Aristocrats,” a Comedy featuring some of America’s greatest comics, including Drew Carey, Robin Williams, Don Rickles, Phyllis Diller, Whoopi Goldberg, George Carlin, and Steven Wright. A live discussion with cast members Bob Saget, Penn & Teller, Jason Alexander, Paul Provenza, Sarah Silverman and Andy Dick will follow the screening. Hollywood’s Master Storytellers™ showcases a mix of recent and classic films featuring a live discussion with the talented Storytellers and talent who made the film, giving audiences the “Great Stories Behind the Great Stories.”
“Our presentation of ‘The Aristocrats’ will be one of the funniest nights of comedy ever,” says Gordon Meyer, the creator and one of the executive producers of Hollywood’s Master Storytellers. “With the phenomenal group of stars coming on the 12th, anything can happen – and probably will,” adds Nadine Hamdan, who, together with Meyer and John Culton is an executive producer of the prestigious series.
“The Aristocrats,” made by comedian-director, Paul Provenza and Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller, features dozens of comedians giving their take on an old dirty joke that has been told and handed down since vaudeville. Reviews describe the film as “gloriously filthy,” “hilariously profane,” “ingenious,” “a raucous celebration of free speech,” “uproarious,” “obscene,” “vulgar” and “might be the funniest movie you’ll ever see.”
Tickets will be available the week of December 5th at the Chinese Theatre box office and online at http://www.MovieTickets.com. “Comedy fans are in for a real treat with ‘The Aristocrats’ and live appearances by Paul Provenza, Penn & Teller, Jason Alexander, Andy Dick, Bob Saget, and Sarah Silverman,” says Culton. “This kind of all-star lineup of comedians all on one stage bouncing off of each other is an event that fans can normally only dream about.”
Paul Provenza, the director of the film, has been on the cutting edge of comedy for the past two decades. Audiences know Paul from his appearances on the hit show “Northern Exposure” as the new doctor in town replacing Rob Morrow. Television viewers also saw Paul as Dinah Manoff’s boyfriend in the NBC comedy “Empty Nest” and his numerous appearances on “The Late Show With David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show,” and the critically acclaimed Showtime series, “Beggars and Choosers.”
Penn Jillette is the larger, louder half of the comedic magic act, Penn & Teller. Together they have been performing to packed houses worldwide for over 30 years. In addition to their hit show at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas where Penn & Teller partner perform year round, they are also the hosts, writers and producers of the popular series “Penn & Teller: Bullshit” on Showtime, co-hosted and co-executive produced of USA Network’s hit variety series “Penn & Teller’s Sin City Spectacular” and have appeared on countless movies and TV shows, including “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Toy Story” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Penn was also the original announcer for the Comedy Central cable network.
Jason Alexander is perhaps best known for his Emmy nominated role as George Costanza on the hit series “Seinfeld,” Alexander also starred in the ABC sitcom “Bob Patterson.” Other career highlights include the movies, “Pretty Woman,” Disney’s animated “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle” and the musical production of “A Christmas Carol.” Alexander earned a Tony Award for his performance in “Jerome Robbins’ Broadway” and tremendous acclaim as Max Bialystock in the Los Angeles production of Mel Brooks’ hit Broadway musical “The Producers.”
America made Bob Saget a star in two of ABC’s most successful and longest running series as one of the stars of “Full House” and the original host of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” Sharp eared fans can hear his narration in the new hit CBS series, “How I Met Your Mother” as the older version of “Ted,” the series’ lead character.
Andy Dick currently co-stars in the hit sitcom “Less Than Perfect,” now in its third season on ABC. He was also one of the co-stars of the long-running series “News Radio”. Other career highlights include the recent Comedy Central roast of Pamela Anderson, the hit MTV series “The Reality Show.” In 2006 audiences will hear his voice in the animated feature “Hoodwinked,” along with Anne Hathaway, James Belushi and Glenn Close.
Sarah Silverman is a sharp tongued comedian who got her national debut as a writer/performer on “Saturday Night Live” and has gone on to appear in “The School of Rock” with Jack Black, “Heartbreakers” with Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt and the big screen version of the hit Broadway musical “Rent”. She is a regular guest on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and was a featured comedian on Comedy Central’s Pamela Anderson roast. Her concert film, “Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic” got rave reviews at several prominent film festivals, including Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers who calls Silverman, “the most outrageously funny woman alive.”

You can’t but hear the lyrics when the cars drive by with the “w’ this and ‘b” that. i don’t watch his show and did get him a try decades ago, but will pay to see him at some award deal and the ‘Avenger of our Women” land on his head.
